Frequently Asked Questions About Indian Choker Necklaces
What is an Indian choker necklace?
An Indian choker is a close-fitting necklace that sits snugly around the neck, typically 14-16 inches in length. Unlike Western minimalist chokers, Indian chokers are ornate statement pieces featuring intricate designs, precious stones, pearls, or temple motifs. They're worn for weddings, festivals, and special occasions, often as part of a layered jewellery look with longer necklaces.
What types of chokers do you offer?
Our choker collection includes temple jewellery chokers with deity motifs, Kundan chokers with embedded stones, pearl chokers (single and multi-strand), antique gold-finish chokers, stone-studded designs with kemp and CZ, oxidised silver chokers, and bridal choker sets. We offer both standalone chokers and sets that include matching earrings.
How do I know what choker size will fit me?
Measure around your neck where the choker will sit, then add 2-3 inches for comfort. Standard choker lengths are 14-16 inches. Most of our chokers have adjustable chains or extension links at the back, allowing 2-3 inches of adjustment. Product descriptions include length details. If you have a larger neck size, look for chokers specifically noted as adjustable or with longer extensions.
Can I wear a choker with other necklaces?
Absolutely! Layering is a classic Indian jewellery styling technique. Pair a statement choker with a longer haram or pendant necklace for a traditional bridal look. For a balanced appearance, choose pieces from the same metal family and complementary designs. A simple choker pairs well with an elaborate long necklace, or vice versa. Our sets are often designed to layer beautifully together.
What necklines work best with chokers?
Chokers pair beautifully with off-shoulder blouses, sweetheart necklines, boat necks, and V-necks that leave the neck and collarbone area visible. For high necklines or collar blouses, a choker may feel too constricting - opt for a princess-length necklace instead. Saree blouses with deep backs showcase chokers elegantly from behind as well.
Are chokers comfortable for all-day wear?
Comfort depends on fit and weight. Ensure your choker isn't too tight - you should be able to fit one finger between the choker and your neck. Our chokers are designed to be lighter than traditional gold pieces while maintaining the grand appearance. For weddings or long events, choose padded or fabric-backed chokers if available, and take short breaks if needed.
How do I care for my choker necklace?
Store chokers flat or hanging to prevent kinks in the chain. Keep in a soft pouch away from other jewellery to avoid scratches. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove oils and sweat. Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays. For stone-studded pieces, check settings periodically to ensure stones are secure. Never use chemical cleaners on plated jewellery.
What is your return policy for chokers?
We do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If you receive a faulty item, please report it to us immediately and we will exchange it for another product within 5-7 days. Please inspect your choker upon delivery and contact us at shop@shreesfashion.com.au right away if you notice any defects.
