Frequently Asked Questions About Indian Jewellery
What types of jewellery do you offer?
Our collection includes traditional South Indian temple jewellery, Kundan jewellery, antique gold-finish pieces, oxidised silver jewellery, and bridal sets. We stock necklaces, earrings, bangles, maang tikkas, nose rings, anklets, and complete bridal jewellery sets. All pieces are designed to complement silk sarees and traditional Indian attire.
Is your jewellery real gold?
Our jewellery is gold-plated brass or copper with 1-micron gold plating, not solid gold. This allows us to offer beautiful traditional designs at affordable prices. The pieces look identical to real gold jewellery and are perfect for regular wear, events, and dance performances. With proper care, the plating lasts 1-2 years.
What is temple jewellery?
Temple jewellery originated in South Indian temples, where it adorned deity statues. Characterised by intricate designs featuring gods, goddesses, and sacred motifs like lotus flowers and elephants, it's traditionally made with rubies (kemp stones) and emeralds set in gold. Our temple jewellery pieces honour this heritage while being accessible for everyday celebrations.
How do I care for gold-plated jewellery?
Store in airtight pouches away from humidity. Remove before bathing, swimming, or applying perfume/hairspray. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove oils and sweat. Never use chemical cleaners. The key to longevity is keeping plated jewellery dry and clean.
Do you sell bridal jewellery sets?
Yes! We offer complete bridal sets that include necklace, earrings, tikka, and sometimes bangles. We also sell individual pieces so you can create your own bridal look. Our bridal collection features both traditional heavy designs and lighter contemporary pieces. Contact us for help putting together your perfect bridal set.
Is the jewellery suitable for sensitive skin?
Most customers wear our jewellery without issues. However, those with metal sensitivities may react to the base metals (brass/copper). We recommend testing by wearing for a short period first. For earrings, applying a thin coat of clear nail polish to posts can create a barrier. Our oxidised silver collection tends to be better tolerated.
Can I wear this jewellery for Bharatanatyam or Kuchipudi?
Absolutely! Many of our pieces are designed with classical dancers in mind. Our temple jewellery collection includes traditional dance jewellery sets with necklaces, earrings, tikka, and hair accessories. The gold-plated finish photographs beautifully on stage while being lightweight for long performances.
What is your return policy for jewellery?
We do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If you receive a faulty item, please report it to us immediately and we will exchange it for another product within 5-7 days. Please inspect your jewellery upon delivery and contact us at shop@shreesfashion.com.au right away if you notice any defects.
